The themes discussed are different, but no less intriguing. Which, despite being middle grade, still has the same beautiful writing that I experienced previously. That love inspired me to start going through Emezi’s back catalog this year and I started with Pet. I loved The Death of Vivek Oji by Akwaeke Emezi. After all, how to do you save someone from monsters if no one will admit they exist? Pet has come to hunt a monster lurking in Redemption’s house and Jam must fight not only to protect her best friend, but also to uncover the truth.
